Dane Smith

2023 Blue Assistant Coach

Coach Dane Smith is entering his 5th season as the Head Coach for St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.  A 2011 graduate of Robert Morris University, Coach Dane was a two-year captain for the Colonials, helping RMU to a then program record 10 wins in 2010 before leading the squad to its first-ever postseason berth in 2011. As a defensive midfielder, Smith competed in 53 career contests for Robert Morris and tallied 44 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. He also displayed a level of dependability as he played in 46 consecutive games to close his Colonial career.

Coach Dane went on to become an assistant coach at RMU, where he primarily worked with the defense and man down unit. In his first season at Robert Morris (2013), the team reached the NEC championship for the first time in school history. The defense at RMU finished 1st in the country in caused turnovers in 2013, 3rd in the country in caused turnovers in 2014, and the man down unit finished among the top 15 in the country for both seasons under the direction of Smith.

Prior to his time at RMU Smith spent time as an assistant coach at Otterbein University and at Mt. Lebanon High School. He helped the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. (PIAA) state semifinals in 2012 as the squad posted 16 wins.
