Coaches

Dave Mitchell

Coach Dave Mitchell is the President and Co-Owner of Next Level Lacrosse.  Dave is fortunate to have outstanding teachers, coaches, and role models who helped shape his life in a very positive way.  Inspired by those relationships and by the transformational power of teaching and sports, Dave aspired to be a life-long coach at an early age.

While in high school, Coach Dave was class president, a three-sport athlete, and a two-time captain for the varsity lacrosse team.  He went on to attend Loyola University, where he was offered and accepted the position of JV Head Coach for The Friends School in Baltimore.
After graduating Loyola University magna cum laude, Dave went back to his alma mater, The Heights School, to serve as 6th grade homeroom teacher and to pursue his love of coaching.  Dave was the Head Varsity Coach for the Cavaliers for 12 seasons.  During that time the team earned a 101-65 record, including two Metro Independent Lacrosse League Championships.  Dave was awarded US Lacrosse “Coach of the Year” in 2011, 2013, 2017, and 2018.  In June of 2021, Dave became the Head Varsity Coach for DeMatha Catholic High School.
After four years as a homeroom teacher, Coach Dave turned to the club lacrosse world to pursue coaching full time.  He became General Manager of Next Level Lacrosse in 2014, and then President in 2016.  Since that time, Next Level has experienced significant growth in all areas, and is now recognized as one of the most competitive club programs in the country.

Colin Heeter

Coach Colin Heeter is the Director of Camps, Leagues & Tournaments for Next Level Lacrosse.  While in high school, Coach Heeter was a four year member of the varsity lacrosse team at The Heights School.  He then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Sports, Entertainment & Event Management from Johnson & Wales University.

In 2008, Coach Heeter was hired as a volunteer assistant lacrosse coach at Brown University primarily working with goalies and the offense. While in Providence, R.I., he helped the Bears make it back to the NCAA Tournament (’09, after a 15 year hiatus), make it to the first ever Ivy League Tournament (’10) and won a share of the regular season Ivy League Title (’09).

After a three-year stint with Brown University, Coach Heeter moved back to the DMV and accepted the position of Assistant Athletic Director and JV Head Coach for Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA.  After three years as the JV Head, he was promoted to Varsity Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator.

In 2016, Coach Heeter accepted an assistant coaching position with St. Albans School varsity team and head coach for the 6th grade team.  In 2019, Coach Heeter was promoted to Head Coach for the varsity program.

David Smith

Coach Smith played high school lacrosse at The Governor’s Academy in MA, and college lacrosse at The University of New Hampshire, where he was the captain as a senior and an All-New England Selection.   He has been a varsity assistant and a JV head coach at Salisbury School in CT, Northfield Mount Hermon in MA, and Landon School in MD.  He also ran Landon School’s lacrosse camp for five summers. He has been teaching and coaching at Landon School since 2001, where he currently teaches English to freshman and sophomores, advises the freshman class, and is an assistant coach in varsity lacrosse and wrestling.  He has three children, ’25, ’26, and ’29 and a Labrador.

TJ Haley

Coach TJ is the Next Level 2025 Blue Offensive Coordinator.  Coach TJ has been playing lacrosse for almost 14 years. He is a rising senior on the  Georgetown University Men’s Lacrosse team. In 2021 he was named BIG EAST Freshman of the year and started and played in 15 out of 16 games. He also led the NCAA in assists per game (3.60) with a Georgetown record of 49 assists in 15 games.

An Under Armour High School All-American, TJ received a five-star ranking being ranked 19th in the 2020 class. TJ was a four-year varsity starter at St. John’s College High School and two-time captain. He led the team in assists and total points scored every year. He was voted first-team All-WCAC junior year and was ranked as the number one player in the DMV area his senior year.
